IEEE 1566-2005 pdf download IEEE Standard for Performance of Adjustable Speed AC Drives Rated 375 kW and Larger
1. Overview
1.1 Scope
This standard applies to ac adjustable speed drive (ASD) systems rated above 375 kW and above 750 Voutput voltage as used in petrochemical and similar applications. lt covers the performance requirementsfor an ASD system including, but not limited to, input transformer or reactor as required, power electronicscontrol interfaces, cooling system, switchgear, and motor. Requirements for power quality, engineeringanalysis, start-up assistance, training, and spare parts are also included. Certain items such as the motorswitchgear, or transformer may be excluded from the scope of vendor supply if specified in the data sheets.the system vendor shall specify any special requirements for the excluded equipment.
1.2 Purpose
The purpose of this standard is to assist users in defining the required perforrance of a drive system inclear terms. It is not intended to specify a particular technology that must be followed, lt is intended to beused with the data sheets given in Annex A and Annex B.
1.3 Application
The drive system will be used to start, accelerate, and control the speed of a motor-driven load. Whenspecified, the ASD shall be capable of achieving synchronization with the utility power system andconnecting the motor directly to this system. The ASD supplier shall define the requirements for matchingthe motor and ASD to the load and the ASD, including input transformer if required, to the power systemsuch that they operate as a system with no unsatisfactory transient, torsional, heating, or power-qualityproblems. The ASD system shall be suitable for the service conditions described in the data sheets.including the ambient temperature and humidity conditions; altitude; input power-supply voltage andminimum and maximum short-circuit capacities of the source; and auxiliary power-supply voltage.
Unless otherwise specified, the ASD and all related parts shall be suitable for a minimum of five years ofcontinuous operation. The vendor shall identify any redundancy requirements necessary to meet this endThe vendor shall provide an expected mean time between failures (MTBF) and mean time to repair (MTTR) for the ASD under the listed service conditions, based on known experience. The vendor shall listall components that are expected to require replacement in a 20-year operating life.
Components utilized in the ASDs covered by this standard shall comply with the appropriate standards forthese components and shall be used in accordance with their recognized ratings and other limitations of useA component need not comply with a specific requirement in referenced component standards as follows:
aThat involves a feature or characteristic not needed in the application of the component in theproduct covered in this standard. or
b) That is superseded by a requirement in this standard
The drive system and all its components shall be designed and manufactured for a minimum service life ot20 years. This shall include availability of spare parts and appropriately trained field service personnelRequired maintenance and frequency to achieve this service life shall be clearly documented.
