This annex states the test procedure for evaluating security POD performance. The following tests should be carried out in a test chamber as detailed below.
A.2 Test chamber
The test chamber shall be set up as detailed in Figure A.1.
The test chamber shall be, apart from as otherwise detailed in this document, an empty. unvented room or enclosure of a recommended volume of 150 (1 i 5 %) m3, with a height to ceiling of 2.5 m to 3,0 m. The volume of the test chamber shall be recorded as (v). The ratio of length to width shall be between 1:1 and 2:1. Alternatively, the test chamber might have another volume. However, it shall respect a margin of maximum ± 5 % versus the volume defined by the manufacturer (with one or more equal devices).
NOTE 1 A chamber having 100 m3 for testing 2 devices with manufacturer declared intended coverage (ms) per individual device of 50 m3.
The chamber shall be well lit (300 lx – 500 lx measured at 76 cm above the floor of the chamber), there should not be any light beam from outside which might alter the test results.
Manufacturer of the pyrotechnic obscuration security device shall declare the volume that the device is capable to fill. Based on that parameter, number of devices to fulfil the test chamber shall be defined.
The staggered black cross markers (as per Figure A.2) shall be positioned at the observersIoperato’s’ eye level, at 2 m and 3 m from the viewing position of the observer as indicated In Figure Al.
The staggered grey/black cross marker (as per Figure A.3) shall be positioned at the observers/operators’ eye level, at 1 m from the viewing position of the obsecver as indicated in Figure Al.
NOTE 2 The observer position and the EUT position might be shifted in x-axis as long as the distance, between the ejection nozzle and the observer is kepL
NOTE 3 For devices with intended usage in displays or window displays (like jewels/watches displays) the chamber will be replaced by a test fixture representing the display and provided by the manufacturer The markers will be placed at the back panel. It is essential that it respects a margin of maximum ± 5 % versus the volume defined by the manufacturer.
The chamber shall be from 20 °C to 22 °C with tolerance of ± 2°C, with a relative humidity of (40 – 75) %.
The UT shall be placed according to the manufacturer’s installation guide on the opposite wall from the observer (as shown in Figure Al). so that the output nozzle is at the manufacturer recommended height within the chamber height limitations. If the EUT has multiple output nozzles, or more than one device shall be used, the centre of the group of nozzles shall be at the manufacturer recommended height within the chamber height limitations, Position of the sample/s shall be recorded.
A.3 Test procedure
A.3.1 General
The purpose of this part of the test is to enable specific performance figures to be attributed to individual EUT’s.
The test chamber shall be clear of all visible smoke. Run this test 3 times in a row to achieve mean average.
A.3.2 Reduction of visibility
The observer/operator shall activate the EUT, then the observer/operator shall then assume his viewing position. When each black element of the 1m2 cross marker is not visible, the observer/operator shall record the time as to.
A.3.3 Obscuration persistency
The observer/operator shall record when the greyscale element of the I m cross marker is not visible. (ti) It is accepted that the black element of the I m cross marker may just be visible.
The observer/operator shall continue to view the marker line and shall note the time, in seconds, when the 2 m and 3 m marks become visible, respectively. Record these times as t2 for 2m marker and t3 for 3m marker.
A.4 Performance data
Once the test has been repeated three times, the average of tO, ti, t2 and t3 shall be calculated. These averaged times shall be referred to as (TO), (Ti), (T2) and (T3).
Manufacturer shall declare in the documentation the time and number of devices to cover the volume.
Based on the test procedure detailed in this annex the following performance data relating to the EUT shall be stated in the test house test report:EN 50131-13-2020 pdf free download.
