EN 1313-1-2010 pdf download.Round and sawn timber – Permitted deviations and preferred sizes – Part 1: Softwood sawn timber.
This EN 1313-1 specifies permitted deviations for thickness and width at reference moisture content and adjustments for changes in size due to changes in moisture content. Preferred sizes for thicknesses of 38 mm and over are also specified.
This standard applies to softwood sawn timber.
An informative annex gives complementary national sizes.
NOTE A.5 includes for France the concept of preferred size for green timber,

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in EN 844-1:1995. EN 844-3:1995, EN 844-4:1997 and EN 844-6:1997 apply.
4 Reference moisture content
The reference moisture content is 20 %. The target sizes in Clause 7 are applied at this moisture content,
5 Change in size due to changes In moisture content
Unless there is evidence to the contrary, it shall be assumed that the thickness and width of a piece of timber Will increase by 0,25 % every 1 % of moisture content higher than 20 % up to fibre saturation point, and decrease by up to 0,25 % every 1 % of moisture content lower than 20 %. The above values are independent of the species
6 Permitted deviations
The average thickness and the average width shall not be less than the target sizes.
Permitted deviations of cross-sectional sizes at 20 % moisture content are as follows:
— For thickness and width < 100 mm: + 3 mml – 1 mm; Forthicknessandwidth> 100mm: +4 mml-2mm
For length: no minus tolerance, plus tolerance agreed by contract.
7 Common traditional target cross-sectional sizes
Sizes shall be measured according to EN 1309-1.
Common traditional target cross-sectional sizes of softwood sawn timber with thickness of 38 mm and over either based on imperial measure, see Table 1; or
based on metric measure, see Table 2.EN 1313-1-2010 pdf download.
