3.5
TEX
the mass of multifilament fibres per length, I TEX = I g/1 000 m. Normally used is dTEX (1 TEX Is 10 dTEX)
3.6
tow
a group of very thin parallel fibres, set on one braiding spool
3.7
braiding angle
the angle of crossing fibres in a braiding pattern
3.8
coverage
the amount of cover of a braid expressed In percentage
3.9
pitch
the pitch is the distance in longitudinal direction between two tows. An alternative indication for ‘tows/cm’
3.10
post installation sleeve
sleeve with self-locking properties over the length of the sleeve which can be applied around cable bundles
4 Description
The following types of sleeves are distinguished:
— Braided tubular sleeve, expandable, tows of multifilament fIbres, providing ease of installation and excellent hold once positioned on the harness, see Figure 1.
5 Design
Protection sleeves are intended to meet the following requirements:
Protection of cables and cable bundles.
Resistance to a hostile environment: abrasion, temperature, fire, arc, electromagnetic interferences.
Flexibility, minimum mass.
The minimum bend radius applicable shall be equal or smaller than the specified minimum bend radius for cables and cable bundles, as specified in EN 3197.
The sleeves are treated especially to reduce the absorption of water either from humidity or by capillary action when they are exposed to splashes of water,
— The flammability, smoke emission and toxicity of all parts shall meet the requirements specified In the product standard.
6 DefinItion drawings and mass
The general dimensions and mass of these sleeves are given in the product standards
8 Quality assurance
8.1 Qualification
See EN 9133 and Table 1.
Unless otherwise in Table 1 or the product standard, tests shall be carried out on samples of the largest and smallest size of sleeve for each construction/material for which approval is claimed.
8.2 Maintenance of qualification
The production routine tests in Table 2 shall be carried out every 3 years on samples of sleeving selected at random from at least 2 different production batches on sleeving taken from production batches manufactured in the last six months.
Tests not included in the product standard are not to be carried out.
— length.
batch number and date of manufacture.
13 Storage
The following storage recommendations are intended to assist in protecting the drums with protection sleeve deterioration caused by environmental conditions existing in stores.
— Protection sleeves should not be stored in direct sunlight.
— Protection sleeves should not be stored more than 2 m from a direct UV (fluorescent) light source.
— Protection sleeve delivered on drums should be left packaged until required.
— Protection sleeve on drums and protection sleeve which is removed from drums should be protected against fluids and dust.
— Artificial conditions, such as high ambient temperature, low humidity and chemical vapour, should be avoided.
Storage life shall be limited to eight years maximum, unless subject to requalilication.BS/EN 6049-001-2018 pdf download.
