BS/EN 17101-2018 pdf download.Thermal insulation products for buildings – Methods of identification and test methods for one-component PU adhesive foam for External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems (ETICS).
5.6 Post application expansion behaviour
5.6.1 Test apparatus and materials
5.6.1.1 Canister(s), with PU adhesive toam for evaluation.
5.61.2 An EPS or XPS board with nominal dimensions of (500 ± 2) mm x (500 ± 2) mm and a minimum thickness of 30 mm. The board shall be flat (flatness shall be equal or less than 2 mm/rn). with dry and clean surfaces. It shall be stored at test conditions of (23 ± 2) °C, (50 ± 5) % r.h. for a minimum period of 24 h. The weight of the EPS or XPS board should be (200 ± 5) g. If not, additional top sheets shall be used to achieve a total weight of (200 ± 5) g.
NOTE The EPS or XPS board is Intended for test purposes only.
5.6.1.3 Base board with a fiat surface (total thickness over the area of the board shall not differ more than ± 0,5 mm) and dimensions of at least 500 mm x 500 mm. It shall be stored at test conditions of (23 ± 2) °C, (50 ± 5) % for a minimum of 7 days and conform to either:
— Grade P3 or PS Wood particle board according to EN 312 with a minimum thickness of 12 mm; or
— a smooth concrete slab with a thickness of at least 40 mm. The concrete shall have a water/cement ratio 0,45 to 0,50; tensile strength of at least 1,5 N/mm2 and a maximum moisture content of 3 % of the total mass prior to the test.
5.6.1.4 Ruler or vernier callipers, capable of measuring to an accuracy of at least 1 mm.
5.6.1.5 Four spacers with a thickness of (8 ± 05) mm, made of non-sticking material, located on
each corner of the base board (see Figure 10).
5.6.1.6 Stopwatch or clock capable of measuring in seconds.
5.6.2 Test procedure
a) Dispense a continuous cylindrically shaped string of PU adhesive foam with a diameter between
20 mm to 30 mm onto the EPS or XPS board at a rate of 100 mm/s to 200 mm/s. The nozzle should
be at a distance of (10 ± 5) mm above the substrate to avoid touching the dispensed foam (see
Figure 8). The foam should be applied in the shape of a square outline of about 400mm x 400mm
(see Figure 9).
b) Record the time at which dispensing started (t0).
c) Place the spacers onto each corner of the base board without delay.
d) With the adhesive strings facing the base board, press the EPS or XPS board firmly onto the board until it touches the spacers. A total mass of (200 ± 5) g shall be ensured by the EPS or XPS board alone or by adding sheets on top.
e) Using the ruler or vernier callipers, measure the distance in millimetres near each spacer between the base board and the EPS or XPS board at corresponding time intervals for each measurement number (Ml to M6) provided in Table 2 (see Figure 10).
1) Record the mean value of the four distance measurements at each time interval (Ml to M6).
5.7 Cohesion strength
5.7.1 Test apparatus and materials
5.7.1.1 Canister(s), with PU adhesive foam for evaluation.
5.7.1.2 A smooth concrete slab with a thickness of at least 40 mm which has been stored at test conditions of (23 ± 2) °C, (50 ± 5) % r.h. for at least 7 days. The concrete shall have a water/cement ratio 0,45 to 0,48; tensile strength of at least 1,5 N/mm2 and a maximum moisture content of 3% of the total mass prior to the test.
5.7.1.3 A minimum five EPS or XPS specimen boards with nominal dimensions (50 ± 1) mm x (50 ± 1) mm, a thickness of at least 30 mm and a minimum tensile strength perpendicular to the faces of 150 kPa. All specimen boards shall be flat with dry and clean surfaces and have been stored at test conditions of (23 ± 2) °C, (50 ± 5) % r.h. for at least 24 h.
EPS or XPS specimen boards with maximum dimensions of 120 mm x 200 mm and minimum thickness of 30 mm can also be used. In that case, the test specimens shall be cut after curing.
5.7.1.4 Spacers (to set the thickness of the cured PU adhesive foam), made of non-sticking material, are used to ensure a consistent (8 ± 0,5) mm gap between the top surface of the EPS/XPS boards and the bottom surface of the concrete slab.
5.7.1.5 Weights or clamps, if substrate material is not heavy enough to ensure stability of the test sample.
5.7.1.6 Sharp and clean cutting knife, e.g. scalpel or craft knife with thin blade.
5.7.1.7 “Eye” bolts/anchors fixed or welded to a flat metal plate with a dimension of (50 ± 1) mm x (50 ± 1) mm for connecting the EPS/XPS specimen hoards to a tensile testing machine.
5.7.1.8 Vernier calliper, with an accuracy of≤ 0,1 mm for measuring of sample surface area.
5.7.1.9 Tensile testing machine
The tensile testing machine needs to be appropriate for the range of force and the displacement involved and capable of having a constant crosshead speed adjusted to (10 ± 1) mm/mm. It shall be capable of measuring the force with an error limit of a maximum of 1 %.
The tensile testing machine shall be capable of continuous recording of load and displacement in order to report load/displacement graphs for all test specimens.BS/EN 17101-2018 pdf download.
