ASTM D6281-23 pdf free download – Standard Test Method For Airborne Asbestos Concentration In Ambient And Indoor Atmospheres As Determined By Transmission Electron Microscopy Direct Transfer (TEM).

This analytical test method employs transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to determine the concentration of asbestos structures present in ambient atmospheres. The method involves measuring the dimensions of asbestos structures and the number of asbestos fibers found within them, from which aspect ratios are calculated.

This test method allows for the identification of various types of asbestos fibers present.

However, this test method may not always be able to differentiate between individual asbestos fibers and their non-asbestos counterparts derived from the same amphibole mineral.

This test method is suitable for determining asbestos concentrations in both outdoor and indoor environments.

The method is defined for use with polycarbonate capillary-pore filters or cellulose ester filters (mixed esters of cellulose or cellulose nitrate), which have been used to draw a known volume of air or blank filters.

The upper limit of concentrations that can be determined by this test method is 7000 s/mm2. This value represents the air concentration, and its calculation depends on the volume of air sampled.
