ASTM D572-23 pdf download – Standard Test Method For Rubber—Deterioration By Heat And Oxygen.

1.1 The scope of this test method includes a process for assessing the relative resistance to deterioration of vulcanized rubber when exposed to high temperatures and high pressure oxygen environments. It is important to note that there may not be a direct correlation between the results of this accelerated test and the natural aging process of rubber, due to the diverse conditions encountered in natural aging scenarios. This accelerated test is appropriate for making comparative evaluations of laboratory compounds or products.

NOTE 1: For assessing the performance of rubber vulcanizates under less extreme conditions that more closely resemble natural aging, Test Methods D573 and D865 are suggested. For evaluating the aging properties of rubber vulcanizates in oxygen-rich atmospheres, under conditions that simulate both natural and accelerated aging at atmospheric pressure, Practices G114 are recommended.
