There aremany interrelated factors that affect the ability of a steel to coldform over a given radius under shop conditions.These factorsinclude thickness， strength level, degree of restraint, relation-ship to rolling direction,chemistry, and base metal microstruc-ture.Table X1.1 lists the suggested minimum inside radii for90° cold bending for Structural Steels.They presuppose“hardway”‘ bending (bend axis parallel to the rolling direction) andreasonably good shop forming practices. Where possible, theuse of larger radii or”easy way” bends are recommended forimproved performance.
7.4.2 Fabricators should be aware that cracks may initiateupon bending a sheared or cold-worked edge. This is notconsidered to be a fault of the steel but is rather a function ofthe induced localized cold-work zone.
