1.4 Definitions
abnormal operating corditions: environmental condi-tions that are unfavorable. harmful, or detrimental toor for the operation of a hoist, such as excessivelyhigh or low ambient temperature, exposure to weathercorrosive fumes, dust laden or moisture laden atmospheres, and hazardous locations.
ambient temperature: the temperature of the atmo-sphere surrounding the hoist.
brake: a device for retarding and stopping motion ofthe load (sec load controlling mechanism)
hazardous (classified) locarions: locations where fireor explosion hazards may exist. Locations are classifiedaccording to the properties of the flammable vaporsliquids, or gases, or combustible dust or fbers thatmay be present, and the likelihood that a flammableor combustible concentration or quantity is presentRefer to ANSI/NFPA 70,latest issue.
