1-1.0SCOPE
1-1.1 Part 1 contains the definitions uscd in thisStandard. Parts 2, 3, and 4 contain the requircmcnts ncc-essary to receive accreditation from The AmericanSociety of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) which must bemet by manufacturers and alteration distributors of fas-teners, non-alteration distributors of fasteners, and fastener testing laboratories. Part S contains the administrative requiremenfs for obtaining third party accreditationfrom ASME.
1-1.Z FAP-I includes all the requirements establishedby ISO 9001 – Quality Systems – Model for QualityAssurance in design/development,production,installation, and servicing.Aiso included in FAP- are addition-al requiremnents for fiscal responsibility. FAP-I is writtenin teriminology specific to the fastener industry. It isunique in that it provides quality management and quality system elemenis for fastener distributors.
1-2.0 DEFINITIONS
1-2.1 Alteration Distributor – A distributor whoalters a fastener prior to sale and assuimes the full respon-sibilities of the Manufacturer’sAccreditationRequirements of Part 2 of this Standard.
1-2.2 Certification — The procedurc by which writ-ten assurance is given that the chemistry, dimcnsionalcharacteristics,mechanical properties,metallurgicalproperties,and performance characteristics conform toapplicable standards and/or specifications and that dataexisfs documenting those statements.
1-2.3 Ceriified Tesi Report -A written statementgencrated by a prucessor and supplied to the purchaserThis document shall present to the purchaser actual testdata assuring that all applicable standards have been metA Ccrtified Test Report shall contain supplier’s name andlocation,customer name,customer purchase order number, product dcscription, quantity, part number, ioi nun-ber, specification number, all test valucs required by thestandard, and any other statements required by the customer’s standard or purchasc order. A Certified TestReport will be issued for performancc characteristics.This document shall be signed by a responsible partyand,if required by contract, shall be authenticatcd bysome non-counterfeitable means. Where availablc,thcreport shal! contain the third party accreditation certificate number and laboratory accreditation number.
1-2.4 Dimensional Inspection – Actual measurementof product dimensions and/or geometry using as appropriate micrometers,dial indicators,comparators,functional gages, or ofher devices suitable for measurementor size conformation.
1-2.5 Distributor — Purchases mechanical fastenersin finished or semi-finished condition for the purpose ofresale. There are two types of distributors for third partyaccreditation purposes.
1-2.6 Equipment Calibrarion – Ail testing equipment, measuring devices and gages used to inspect fas-teners for conformance io standards/specifications shallbe controlled and, at specified periuds, checked to assuremaintenance of accuracy within specified limits. Allchecks and calibrations shall be traceabie to applicabienational or international standards.
1-2.7 Factory Order – A document that contains allpertinent information required to manufacture, identify.and package a product in accordance with the provisions of the customer’s purchase order and/or applicable standards.
1-2_8Fasfener – A fastener is a mechanical devicedesigned specifically to hold, join, couple, assemble, ormaintain equilibrium of single or multiple components.The resulting assembly may funcrion dynamically or sta-tically as a primary or secondary component of a mecha-nism or structure. Common families of fasteners inciudenuts, bolts,rivets.screws. pins, washers, and specialparts.

1-210 Fastener Testing Laboralory — An organization that performs testing and/or inspection of dimen-siomal, imcchanical, chcmical, imctallurgical, and pcrfor-mancc charactcristics of mcchanical fastencrs and moctsthe requirements of this Standard.
