ASME B30.22:2000 pdf download ARTICULATING BOOM CRANES
Section 22-0.1: Scope of B30.22
The scope includes only cranes of the types describedin para. 220.2.1,articulated by hydraulic cylinders,which are powered by internal combustion engines orelectric motors and are mounted on a mobile chassisor stationary installation. Frequently, articulating cranesare equipped with a ioad hoist mechanism to broadentheir versatility. Load hoist mechanism equipped machines are covered by this volume.
Some basic machine types within this scope areconvertible for excavating work and other uses notconsidered to be lifting service. The requirements ofthis volume are applicabie only to such machines whcnused as lifting crancs.
Exemptions from this volume include:
(a) all units with a maximum rated capacity of iton or less;
(b) aii units with boums constructed of nonconduc-tivc-typc materiais,
(c) all units equipped with or designed primarily forpersonnei baskets,piatforins,iadders,etc.;
(d) all units when equipped with nonlifting attach-ments;
(e) all units used in forestry and logging applications;() telescoping boom cranes that do not articulate(covered under R30.5):
(g) scrap and material handlers.
Section 22-0.2: Definitions
22-0.2.1 Types of Articulating Boom Cranescommercial truck-mounted: a craneconsisting of arotating mast, mainfreme or base, boom, and one ormore operator’s stations, such as ground controls (Fig1), top seat controls (Fig. 2), or remote controls (Fig3), mounted on a frame attached to a commercia! truckchassis, retaining a payload capability whose power source may power the crane. The function is to liftlower, and swing loads at various radii.
stafionary: a cranc, consisting of a rotating mastmmainframe or base, and boom, mounted on a stationarystructurc. Thc function is to lift, lowcr, and swingloads at various radii from a fixed center of rotation.See Fig. 4.
trailer or rail car-mounted:a cranc,consisting of arotating mast mainframme or base, and boom, mountedon a trailcr or rail car, The function is to lift, lowerand swing loads at various radii. See Figs. S and 6.
traveling base-mounfed: a crane, consisting of a rotat-ing mast, boom, mainframe or basc, and one or moreopcrator’s stations, mounted on a traveling base. Thefunction is to lift, lower, and swing loads at variousradii. See Fig. 7.
wheel- or crawler-mounfed (multiple control statiors): a cranc,consisting of a rotating mast, mainframe or base, operator’s station, and boom, mountedon an off-road carrier equipped with axles, rubber-tiredwheels, or crawlers for travel, a power source(s),andhaving separate stations for driving and operating. tsfunction is to lift, lower, and swing loads at variousradii..See Figs. 8 and 9.
wheel- or crawler-mounted (single control station):crane, consisting of a rotating mast, mainframe or base.and boom,mounted on an off-road carrier equippedwith axles, rubber-tired wheels, or crawlers for travela power source, and having a single control stationfor driving and operating. Its function is to lift, lower,and swing loads at various radii, See Figs. 10 and 1l
22-0.2.2 General Definitions
accessory: a secondary part or assembly of parts whichcontributes to the overaii function and usefuiness of acrane.
