ASME B30.18:1998 pdf download Stacker Cranes (Top or Under Running Bridge, ? Multiple Girder With Top or ? Under Running Trolley Hoist)
SECTION 18-0.1: SCOPE OF B30.18
Volume B30.18 includes provisions that apply to theconstruction, installation, operation, inpsection, andmaintenance of hand-powered and power-driven overhead and gantry cranes that have a top or under runningmultiple girder bridge with a vertically guided carriagewith or without a top or under running trolley. Therequirements included in this volume also apply tostacker cranes having the same fundamental characteristics, such as cantilever gantry and semi-gantry stackercranes.
SECTION 18-0.2: DEFINITIONS18-0.2.1 Types of Equipment
cab-operated stacker crane: a crane controlled by an opera-tor in a cab that is attached to the bridge mast, trolleystacker mast, or load carriage (see Fig. 1).cantilever gantry stacker crane: a gantry or semi-gantrycrane in which the bridge girders or trusses extend transversely beyond the crane runway on one or both sidescrane: a machine for lifting and lowering a load andmoving it horizontally. Cranes, whether fixed or mobileare driven manually, by power, or by a combinationof both.
crane, oufdoor: an overhead or gantry crane that operatesoutdoors and for which provisions are not available forstorage in an area that provides protection to the cranerom weather conditions. An indoor crane that mayoperate outdoors on a periodic basis is not classified asan outdoor crane.
floor-operated stacker crane: a crane that is controlled byan operator on the floor or an independent platformusing a means suspended from the crane (see Fig. 2).gantry stacker crane: a crane similar to an overhead craneexcept that the bridge for carrying the trolley(s) is rigidly supported on two or more legs running on fixed railsor other runway.
power-operated stacker crane: a crane whose mechanismis driven by electric, air, or hydraulic means.
pulpit-operated sfacker crane: a crane operated from a fixedoperator station not attached to the crane.
remnote-operated stacker crane: a crane controlled by anoperator not in a pulpit or in the cab attached to thecrane, by any method other than a means suspendedfrom a crane.
semi-gantry stacker crane: a gantry crane with one end ofthe bridge rigidly supported on one or more legs thatrun on a fixed rail or runway, the other end of the bridgesupported by a truck running on an elevated rail orrunway.
sfacker crane: a crane used for stacking and retrievingpalletized or containerized materials, with a multiplegirder movable bridge carrying a hoisting mechanismmast, and carriage (see Fig. 3).
18-0.2.2 General
abnormal operating conditions; environmental conditionsthat are unfavorable, harmful, or detrimental to the operation of a stacker crane such as excessively high or lowtemperatures, exposure to adverse weather, corrosivefumes, dust- or moisture-laden atmospheres, and hazardous locations.
administrative or regulatory authority: governmentalagency or the employer in the absence of governmenta.urisdiction.
aisle: space between storage compartment rows in whicthe stacker mast and carriage may operate.
ampacity: current-carrying capacity of electric conductors,in amperes.
appointed: assigned specific responsibilities by theemployer or the employer ‘s representative.
