ASME B18.27:1998 pdf download ADDENDA to ASME 818.27-1998 TAPERED AND REDUCED CROSS SECTION RETAINING RINGS (INCH SERIES)
1 INTRODUCTORY NOTES
1.1 Scope
This Standard covers complete general and dimensional data for three series of general purpose taperedand reduced cross section retaining rings, which maybe used with the nominal size shafts and housingslisted and in grooves of the recommended dimensionslisted. Also included are formulas and tolerances onwhich dimensional data are based. Three appendicesinclude guidance for assembly and recommended stan-dard drawing formats.
The inclusion of dimensional data in this Standardis not intended to imply that all of the products describedare stock production sizes. Consumers should consultwith suppliers concerning lists of stock production sizes.
1.2 ISO Standard
There are no existing ISO Standards for theseproducts.
1.3 Ring Types
1.3.1 External Rings. Dimensions of basic externalrelaining rings and erooves for various shaft sizes arcgiven in Table 6. See Nonmandatory Appendix A forequivalent metric data.
1.3.2 Internal Rings, Dimensions for basic internalretaining rings and grooves for various housing sizesare given in Table 7. See Nonmandatory Appendix Cfor equivalent metric data.
1.3.3 External E-Rings. Dimensions of E-Typeextemai retaining rings and grooves for various shaftsizes are given in Table 8. See Nonmandatory AppendixE for equivalent metric data.
1.4 Designations
Retaining rings in this Standard shall be designatedby the following data in the sequence shown: ringseries type number; size; material; protective finish, if required or by,optionally,ASME B1824.3 PIN Code.See examples below:
NA1-37.Carbon spring sleel phosphateR27INAA0037NN056NNAAJ
NA2-75.Corrosion resistant steelR271NAB0075NN519NNABI
NA3-S118,Beryllium copperR27INACSI8NN643NNAA
1.5 Applicability
The rings covered by this Standard are intendedprimarily for use with the shaft, housing, and groovesizes recommended; however, in certain cases thesediameters may be altered somewhat to suit the require-ments of a particular design. When such changes aremade, care should be taken to not alter the shaft orhousing size to such an extent that the ring will takeenough permanent ser to allow a loose fit after thering has been assembled into the groove. Neither shouidthe groove diameter be altered to the extent to permitthe ring to ft loosely.
1.6 Dimensions
All dimensions in this Standard are in inches unlessotherwise stated.
1.7 Supplementary Information
Allowable loads, maximum radii and chamfers, clearance dimensionsand gaging diameters for all threering series are included in Mandatory Appendices IIl and IIL. RPM limits for external basic and externalE-rings are included in Mandatory Appendices I and Ill
1.8 Reference Standards
Unless otherwise specified, the referenced standardshall be the most recent issue at the time of orderplacement.
