ASME B18.24.2:1998 pdf download PART lDENTIFYING NUMBER (PIN) CODE SYSTEM STANDARD FOR B18 INTERNALLY THREADED PRODUCTS
1 INTRODUCTORY NOTES
1.1 Scope
1.1.1 This Standard is intended to provide all users(manufacturers, distributors, design and conhiguration.parts control.inventory control, and test and maintenance functions) with the capability to identify internallythreaded fastener products by a preselected order olcoding as specifed in this Standard.
1.1.2 The B18 PIN coverage is a self-containedcodc with distinct identification linkage to individualASME B18 internally threaded fastener product standards. The PIN code concept provides for direct traceability to the applicable B18 product standard
2 GENERAL GUIDANCE
2.1 Optional Coverage
Each individual ASME BI8 internally threaded fas-tener product standard provides for optional B18 PINcoverage under“Designation””or”Ordering” data.
2.2 Alpha“1”and“O”
Alpha “I” and “O” are not used in PIN feld codeconfiguration.
2.3 Characteristics
The B18 PIN Code shall identify only those characteristics specified in the B18 product standards
3 PIN OADER OF CODING BY FIELDS
3.1 Field 1 _ Fastener Family for ExternallyThreaded Product
One alpha character.
3.2 Field 2 – B18 Standard Identification
Four numeric characters or with the fourth characteras“N” representing the last three or four numbercharacters of B18 Standard designation after “B18”asapplicable. The“N”represents a no-entry condition.
NOTE: If after the B18 Standard number designarion there is anumber of digits less thun three, one or two zeros arc added tomakc up thc four-churacler designation. For examplc: B18.2.2220N,0r B18.2.4.2M242N,or B18.16.M =16IN,
3.3 Field 3 – Fastener TypeTwo numeric characters. See Matrix A.
3.5 Field 5 – Diameter (for Nuts or Inserts)and Length (for Inserts)
Four alpha and numneric characters (total of fourcharacters). See Matrices B1 through B3.“NN” repre-sents a no-entry condition.
3.6 Field 6 – Materia and Treatment
Five alpha and/or numeric characters. See Matrix C.This field covers both direct American Society forTesting and Materials (ASTM) source reference andAluminum Association (AA) Copper Development As-sociation (CDA),Iron and Steel Society (ISS),andSociety of Automotive Engineers (SAE) as identifiedin SAE HS-1086/ASTM DS-56 Metals and Alloys inthe Unified Numbering System (UNS) by UNS designa-tion and Industrial Fasteners Institute (IFI) source reference accordingly.“N””NN” or“NNN” is identificdas a no-entry condition.
