ASME B18.15M:1998 pdf download METRIC LIFTING EYES
1INTRODUCTORY NOTES
1.1 Scope
This Standard covers dimensional and load requirements for forged metric threaded lifting eyes intendedprimarily for lifting applications.
The inclusion of dimensional data in this Standardis not intended to imply that all sizes described areproduction stock items. Consumers should consult withsuppliers concerning lists of stock production items.
1.2 Comparison With ISO 3266
This Standard is based on ISO 3266:1984 Type 1.Maximnum lifting capacities and proof loads for a partic-ular thread size comply with ISO 3266.Minimumbreaking loads in ISO 3266 are approximately 4 timesmaximum lifting capacities; in this Standard minimumbreaking loads are approximately S times maximumlifting capacities. ISO 3266 does not have a taperedeye thickness as shown in this Standard, In addition.for some sizes the following features do not complywith the ISO standard:
(a) flange diameter
(b) thread undercut diameter
(c) stud length
Control is also required for some dimensions notcontrolled in ISO 3266.
1.3 Dimensions
All dimensions in this Standard are in millimeters(mm).
1.4 Terminology
For definitions of terms relating to fasteners or component features used in this Standard, refer to ANSlB18.12.

1.6 Designation
Lifting eyes conforming to this Standard shall bedesignated by the following data, preferably in thesequence shown:
(a) ASME document number
(b) product name
2 REQUIREMENTS
2.1 Material
The material requirements for general purpose carbonsteel lifting eyes used between 0 and 135°C are coveredby ASTM A 489. Lifting eyes requiring improvedtoughness or intended primarily for temperature applica-tions to -40°C are covered by ASTM F 541. Whenother materials are required, the material shall be asagreed upon by the manufacturer and user.
2.2 Mechanical and PerformanceRequirements
Proof and breaking loads shall meet or exceed therequirements of Table 1. Tests shall be performed inaccordance with ASTM A 489.
2.3 Threads
Threads shall be coarse thread series Class 6g asspecified in ASME B1.13M. Threads shall be inspectedin accordance with ASME B1.3M System 21 unlessotherwise specified. Rolled threads to improve fatiguelife of the lifting eye are desirable. These lifting eyes
