ASME B16.22:1998 pdf download WROUGHT COPPER AND COPPER ALLOY SOLDER JOINT PRESSURE FITTINGS
1 SCOPE
1.1 GeneralThis Standard for wrought copper and wroughtcopper alloy solder joint seamless fittings, designedfor use with copper water tube, covers:(a) pressure-temperature ratings;(b) abbreviations for end connections;(c) size and method of designating openings offittings;(d) marking;(e) material;(f) dimensions and tolerances; and(g) tests.
1.2 Convention
For the purpose of determining conformance withthis Standard, the convention for fixing significantdigits where limits, maximum or minimum values, arespecified shall be “rounding off”as defined in ASTME 29. This requires that an observed or calculatedvalue shall be rounded off to the nearest unit in thelast right-hand digit used for expressing the limit.
1.3 Quallty Systems
Requirements relating to the product manufactur-ers’Quality System Programs are described in nonmandatory Annex IV.
2 PRESSURE-TEMPERATURE RATINGS
2.1 Rating of Fitting and of Joint
The rated internal working pressure-temperaturerating for a solder joint fitting is dependent upon notonly fitting and tube strength, but also compositionof the solder used for the joint.Pressure-temperature rating for solder joints tothe dimensions of Table 3, made with typical com-mercial solders, are given in Annex I.
The system rated internal working pressure shallbe the lower of the values shown in Table 1 and An-nex I.
2.2 Bursting Strength
Fittings manufactured to this Standard shall havean ambient temperature bursting strength of at leastfour times the 100F rated internal working pressureas shown in Table 1.
3 ABBREVIATIONS
The following symbols are used to designate thetype of fitting end.C = solder joint fitting end made to receive copper tube diameter (female)FTG = solder joint fitting end made to copper tubediameter (male)F – internal ANSI standard taper pipe thread(female) NPTIM = external ANSI standard taper pipe thread(male) NPTE
4 SIZE
The size of the fittings shown in Tables 3 and I.1corresponds to standard water tube size as shown inASTM B 88, Specification for Seamless Copper Water Tube. The size of the threaded ends correspondsto nominal pipe size.Fittings are designated by the size of the openingsin the sequence illustrated in Fig. 1.
5 MARKING
Each fitting shall be permanently marked with themanufacturer’s name or trademark in accordancewith MSS SP-25. Marking may be omitted from anyfitting where it may damage soldering surfaces.
6 MATERIAL
(a) Fittings shall be made from copper UNS NosC10200,C12000,or C12200, or copper alloy UNSC23000,for which allowable stresses are found inASME B31.1 O ASME B31.9.
(b) Other coppers and copper alloys may be usedprovided they meet the chemical requirements of84% minimum copper and 16% maximum zinc, andprovided the fittings produced from the copper materials meet all the mechanical and corrosionresistant properties for the end purposes of the fit-tings. The composition of the copper materials shallcontain nothing that will inhibit joining to tube or toother fittings.
7 LAYING LENGTHS
Due to widely varying manufacturing processesmeaningful laying length dimensions of fittings cannot be established. Consult the manufacturer forthese dimensions.
