ASME B16.18:2001 pdf download CAST COPPER ALLOY SOLDER JOINT PRESSURE FITTINGS
1 SCOPE
1.1 General
This Standard for cast copper alloy solder jointpressure fittings designed for use with copper watertube,establishes requirements for:
(a) pressure-temperature ratings;
(b) abbreviations for end connections:
(c) sizes and method of designating openings offittings;
(d) marking;
(e) material:
(f) dimensions and tolerances; and
(g) tests.
1.2 Units of Measurement
The values stated in either US. Customary (inchlb.) or SI (metric) units of measure shall be regardedseparately as standard. Within the main text, U.SCustomary units are given. For convenience. the Slunits are shown in parentheses and in NonmandatoryAnnex B.The values stated in each system are notexact equivalents; therefore,each system shall be usedindependently of the other.
NOTE: Combining values from the two systems may result innonconformance with the Standard.
1.3 Convention
For the purpose of determining conformance withthis Standard, the convention for fixing significant digitswhere units.maximum or minimum valuesare specifiedshall be “rounding off”as defined in ASTM PracticeE 29. This requires that an observed or calculated valueshall be rounded off to the nearest unit in the lastright-hand digit used for expressing the limit.
1.4 References
Standards and specifications adopted by reference inthis Standard are shown in Nonmandatory Annex D.which is part of this Standard. t is not consideredpractical to identify the specific edition of each standardand specification in the individual references.Instead.the specific edition reference is identified in Nonmanda-tory Annex D.
1.5 Quality System
Requirements relating to the product manufacturer’sQuality System Programs are described in Nonmanda-tory Annex E.
2 PRESSURE-TEMPERATURE RATINGS
2.1 Rating of Fitting and of Joint
The internal working-pressure-temperature rating fora solder joint fitting is dependent not only on fittingand tube strength, but also on the composition of thesolder used for the ioint and selection of valves andappurtenances.
The internal working-pressure ratings of the systemshall be the lowest of the values shown in Table 1and Nonmandatory Annex A. and those of the tube.valves,or appurtenances.
Pressure-temperature ratings for solder joints to thedimensions of Table 3,made with typical commercialsolders,are given in Nonmandatory Annex A
2.2 Bursting Strength
When tested at 73°F+5°F(23C+2°C) fittings manu-factured to this standard shall have an ambient-tempera-ture bursting strength of at least four times the 100°F(38°C) internal working-pressure rating as shown inTable 1.
