1.1 Scope
This Standard provides safety requirements for thedesign, construction,testing, and use of hand held andhandled metal punches and drift pins that are intendedspecifica!!y for use in marking meta!,for driving andremoving such things as pins and rivets, and for aligningholes in different sections of material. Some types otpunches included are: center. prick,pin. starting, driftor lining up. round. backing out, and bearing racePower-driven punches are excluded.
1.2 Purpose
This Standard is intended to serve as a guide inselecting. testing,and using the tools covered. Detailsof design. testing. and use of the tools covered arespecified onty as they relate to safety. it is not thepurpose of this Standard to specify the details otmanutacturing.
The Suundard is aisu meant to serve as a guide indeveloping manuals and pusters for truining persomnelto work safely.
1.3 Application
This Srandard may be used as a guide by staleauthorities or other regularory bodies in the formulationof laws or regulations. it is also intended for voluntaryuse by estabiisinents that use ur inarufacture the tooiscovered.
The mmethods employed to insure compliance with thiStandard shall be determined by the proper regulatory oradministrativc authority.
