AS 2455.2:2019 pdf download.Textile floor coverings – Installation practice Part 2: Carpet tiles.
4 Pre-laying requirements
4.1 General
Pre-laying requirements shall be in accordance with AS 2455.1. Prior to commencement, it should be ascertained that carpet tiles, type, colour, batch numbers, and arrow/pile direction, are all in accordance with the customer’s specification.
4.2 Subfloor condition and preparation
Subfloor preparation shall be in accordance with AS 2455.1, and the following requirements:
(a) The subfloor shall be rigid, clean and dry and be free of materials that may adversely affect the carpet tiles.
(b) Where there is cable trunking, the finished surface shall be level with the subfloor.
(c) The subfloor shall be tested for moisture content (RH %) and alkalinity (pH) as specified in AS 2455.1.
4.3 Dual bond system
For the dual bond system, unless otherwise specified, the underlay shall be removed from its packaging and left fully unrolled for a period of not less than three hours, for conditioning purposes. The adhesive manufacturer’s recommendations on the adhesive application method and rates shall be followed.
4.4 Access panel floors
Access panel floors shall be true and square and constructed and installed in accordance with EN 12825.
NOTE Attention is drawn to definitions of”plane” and “smooth” in AS 2455.1.
5 Setting up
5.1 General
The contractor shall request the purchaser to supply relevant site information prior to installation (see Appendix A). In setting up, a point in the room shall be determined from which carpet tiles can be installed to ensure that they are laid —
(a) unless specified otherwise, parallel to the longest wall (see Figure 1);
(b) where practical, with full tiles in doorways and high traffic areas (see Figure A.5.i);
(c) on access floors, unless a carpet tile is manufactured to fit one access panel, with the edge of a carpet tile not corresponding with access floor panel joints;
(d) when setting up in large floor plates within a central core, run a string line around the central core then install out into the quadrants (see Figure A.5.2);
(e) when setting up for a border installation, start square at the centre of the filled area and mark the borders square to this. This will provide a straight border line leaving any undulations against the wall (see Figure A.5.3); and
(f) once a 90 degree angle is set, install the tiles using the “stair” method to maintain in square and keep grid (see Figure 2).
5.2 Procedure
The procedure for setting up shall be as follows (see Figure 1):
(a) Mark a line (B) parallel to the longest wall (A).
(b) Mark point (X) along line B at a distance to ensure that the requirements of perimeter modular carpet tiles are a minimum of 1/3 width.
(c) Mark points Cl and C2 at a distance of 3 m each side of X.
(d) At Cl and C2 scribe an arc at a distance of S rn to establish point D where arcs intersect.
(e) Draw a line through D and X which will be 90 degrees to line B.
5.3 Additional requirements for the dual bond system
The following requirements apply:
(a) The starting seam of the underlay shall be offset by 200 mm from the datum line for the carpet tiles.
(b) For access panel floors and cable trunking, the grid setout shall be transferred to the underlay using indelible datum lines.
6 Application of primer and adhesive
6.1 Procedure for fully adhered pressure sensitive system
The procedure shall be as follows:
(a) Prime the subfloor in accordance with the provisions for subfloor preparation in AS 2455.1.
(b) Spread pressure-sensitive adhesive to 100 % of the floor area by trowel, roller or spray in accordance with the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions.
NOTE The porosity and absorption of adhesive varies with differing subfloor conditions. It is the responsibility of the installer to ensure the application rate of product for each specific installation is sufficient to achieve the adhesive manufacturer’s recommended spread rates.
6.2 Procedure for dual bond system
6.2.1 Subfloor installations
The procedure shall be as follows:
(a) Prime the subfloor and spread the manufacturer’s recommended adhesive by trowel, roller or spray in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
(b) Install the underlay.
(c) Apply the manufacturer’s recommended adhesive to the underlay in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
(d) Install the carpet tiles in accordance with Clauses 5.1 and 52.AS 2455.2 pdf download.
