ANSI Z245.60-1999 pdf download Equipment Technology and Operations for Waste and Recyclable Materials – Waste Containers – Compatibility Dimensions
1 Scope and purpose
1.1 Scope
The specifications contained in this document apply to newly manufactured containers that are used in conjunction with the collection, processing and disposal (including the diversion of wastes for recycling) of municipal, commercial and industrial solid wastes by private companies and public entities. Containers may vary widely as to size, design and other characteristics. These containers are used in conjunction with mobile and stationary equipment that use mechanical means to handle the containers. Containers not in conformance with this standard may be safely handled provided the mechanism used is compatible with the dimensions of the specific container.
Figure 1 illustrates examples of various types of containers which are within the scope of this standard.
This standard does not apply to containers intended for use by householders for their individual use which are not to be handled by mechanical container lifting and dumping mechanisms.
Figure 2 illustrates examples of various types of containers which are not within the scope of this standard.
Containers are designed to be either mobile or stationary. Mobile containers are usually mounted on casters or wheels. Containers of three cubic meters (four yd 3 ) and larger capacity are usually stationary. Specially designed containers may also be integral with or detachable from stationary compactors. Also, containers may have hinged lids and access doors which vary as to the number of panels, size, use and location. The requirements of this standard are divided into seven clauses and are applicable as described in clauses 1.1.1 to 1.1.3. 1.1.1 Clauses 1 through 3 provide general information and definitions and shall apply to all containers covered by this standard.
1.1.2 Clauses 4 through 6 provide requirements that shall apply generally to all containers. 1.1.3 Clause 7 provides requirements that apply to specific types of containers.
1.2 Purpose This standard facilitates the dimensional compatibility between various types of containers and equipment designed to lift and dump these containers, as well as facilitates the identification of compatible containers and lifting equipment by persons involved in the manufacture, reconstruction, use, modification, maintenance, service, operation, and installation (where applicable) of containers
