ANSI T1.401.03-1998 pdf download Network -to-Customer Installation Interfaces – Analog Voicegrade Switched Access Lines with Calling Number Delivery, Calling Name Delivery, or Visual Message- Waiting Indicator F eatures
Definitions, abbreviations, acronyms, and symbols
3.1 Definitions
3.1.1 American National Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCI): A standard commu- nications coding method that permits information to be exchanged by assigning specific numerical values to ltters, numbers, punctuation marks, and other characters, as well as, printer control codes and nonprinting communications codes.
3.1.2 Answer signal: An off- hook signal transmitted towards the network when the called party answers.
3.1.3 Calling name delivery (CNAM): A supplementary feature that provides the called CI with the date and time of the call, and a name that is associated with the access line from which the call originated. 3.1.4 Calling number delivery (CND): A supplementary feature that provides the called CI with the date and time of the call, and the directory number associated with the access line of the calling CI. 3.1.5 Carrier: An organization that provides telecommunications services to customer installations.
3.1.6 Checksum: A word appended to a message to enable the receiver to detect any error in the transmitted signal.
3.1.7 Customer Installation (CI): All cabling and equipment on the customer side of the network in terface.
3.1.8 Customer Installation Data Receiver (CIDR): CPE at the CI that can receive network-originated on-hook data transmission using the single data message format (SDMF) and the multiple data message format (MDMF).
3.1.9 Customer Premises Equipment (CPE): Telecommunications equipment located at the customer installation on the customer side of the network interface.
3.1.10 Data word (or word): An eight-bit byte.
3.1.11 Demarcation point: See network interface.
3.1.12 Distinctive alerting: Special ringing or call-waiting tone patterns sent by the network to convey information to a CI about the called number, the calling number, or the status of an automatic call request.
3.1.13 Ground-start signaling: A type of analog voicegrade access line signaling that requires the CI to provide a ground on the ring conductor at the NI to initiate service requests.
3.1.14 Long silent interval: A silent interval during a ringing cycle or pattern that lasts at least 1200 ms.
3.1.15 Loop-start signaling: A type of analog voicegrade access line signaling that requires the CI to provide a low resistance tpto-ring dc path at the NI to initiate service requests.
3.1.16 Mark: A single bit set to the logical value “1”.
3.1.17 Mark Sequence: A string of mark bits sent immediately before message transmission starts to alert the CI to initiate certain actions.
3.1.18 Message: A message consists of a message header and a message body.
