AIA/NAS 941-2013 pdf download IDENTIFICATION MARKING OF TITANIUM SHEET
PURPOSE
To provide a uniform method of physically marking titanium sheet to assure positive identification of entire sheetsor small remnants.
MARKING FLUIDS
Marking shal be applied by means of fluids which will not rub off or fade in normal handling or when exposed tothe elements; which are capable of being removed in hot alkaline cleaning solution without rubbing; and whichhave no deleterious effect on the material.
MARKING LAYOUT
Markings shall be applied by means of continuous lengthwise rows of characters not less than 3/8″ high spaced notmore than 1 1/2″ apart.
COMPOSITION IDENTIFICATION
Chemical composition shall be identified by means of the composition code (see below) applied as a series of 3/8’etters enclosed within 5/8″ circles recurring at intervals of not more than 3″ along every other row. Thecomposition code may alternate with other information within the same row.
SPECIFICATION AND MANUFACTURER IDENTIFICATION
ldentification of applicable specification number and of manufacturer’s name or code shall each occur regularly inevery fourth row or closer at intervals of not more than 8″ within its respective row. These items of information mayalternate with each other or with other information within the same row.
HEAT NUMBER AND THICKNESS IDENTIFICATION
ldentification of heat number and of thickness shall each occur regularly every eighth row or closer at intervals ofnot more than 24″ within its respective row. These items of information may alternate with each other or with otherinformation within the same row.
MARKING COLOR
Marking fluids may be applied in any color which provides a reasonable contrast with the surface to which it isapplied except that markings for all grades of commercially pure titanium sheet shall be green.
COMPOSITION CODE
Composition shall be identified in terms of the principal alloying ingredients according to the following codeCorresponding AMS numbers are given for convenience but use of the code alone implies only the chemicacomposition and not necessarily any other provisions of the related AMS specification.
