1.This standard provides a method for skin packaging of items by use ofthermoformed plastic skin on a backing board.
2.0REFERENCES
2.l General Packaging Standard NAS 850.
30REQUIREMENTS
3.1GENERAL
3.1.1Requirements of General Packaging Standard NAS 850 are a part of this standard exceptas noted herein.
3.2 UNIT PACKAGING
3.2.1 The quantity per unit package shall be asfollows,unless otherwise specified by theprocurement document:
One (1) each or multiples of five (5) each
3.2.2 Like items shall be positioned on backing boardwith sufficient area between each item to pro-vide a secure seal and to facilitate individualissue by cutting or use of perforations.
Items shall be secured to the backing board
3.2.3with a transparent plastic film which conformsto the configuration of the item and adheres tothe backing board.
3.2.4 Film shall be of sufficient strength and thicknessto adequately restrict and contain the items.Items adversely affected by the degree of heat
3.2.5involved in this process shall not be skinpackaged.
3.3 INTERMEDIATE PACKAGING
3.3.1 Intermediate packaging shall be in accordance with applicable requirements of NAS 850.
3.3.2 Completed skin packaged broads may be rolled or folded to reduce intermediate pack size providing this will have no detrimental effect on packaged items.
3.3.3 Skin packaged items susceptible to damage by contact with adjacent boards shall be protected by the use of blocking, sleeving, separators or dunnage.
3.4 PACKING
3.4.1 Exterior packing shall be in accordance with applicable requirements of NAS 850.
3.5 MARKING
3.5.1 Unit, intermediate, and exterior containers shall be marked in accordance with applicable requirements of NAS 850.
3.5.2 Unit container markings as specified in NAS 850 shall be provided each item positioned on backing boards to facilitate individual item issue.
3.5.3 Markings may be imprinted directly on the backing boards or on labels.
4.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE
4.1 Packages which do not conform to these requirements are subject to rejection LIST OF CUR ENT SHEE and return to supplier at his expense.
