.0 SCOPE
This standard provides a method for the packaging of an item in a box-bag-box, with desiccant.
2.0 REFERENCE
2.1 General Packaging Standard NAS 850.
3.0 REQUIREMENTS
3.1 General
3.1.1 Requirements of NAS 850 are a part of this standard except as noted herein.
3.2.1
The quantity per unit package shalI be as follows, unless otherwisespecified in the procurement document.
One (1) each
3.2.2Place the item in a paperboard or fiberboard box with adequatecushioning material to protect the item.
Determine the number of units of desiccant required and place in boxso as not to directly contact the item. Determination of quantity ofdesiccant required may be obtained from any manufacturer of desiccant.
Place box in a water-vaporproof bag. Insert humidity indicator(e.g,, three spot type, etc.) adjacent to bag opening. Accomplishbag closure by any approved method, maintaining minimum air volume.Aliow sufficient material to accommodate at least two (2) additionalreseals.
Place bagged inner box into an outer fiberboard box. Close box sothat it may be opened and reclosed without damage to the box orcontents.
