2.1 General Packaging Standard NAS 850

3.1GENERAL
3,1,1 Requirements of General Packaging Standard NAS 850 are a part of this standard except as noted herein3,1.2 Irrespective of the type packaging used, all leads shall be free of bends which exceed the allowances of the itemdesign drawing and/or specification, Leads may be used for positioning, but must not be subjected to loads orstresses that can damage them or their entry seals.
3,1.3Identifying markings or color codings on items shall be uniformly arranged and similarly located within the
container .
Requirements of Field Force, Protection for Standard NAS 853 are part of this standard except as noted herein3,1.4Items which may be damaged by Field Forces (electromagnetic-electrostatic effects) in non-operating environ-ment, shall be provided with an appropriate protection by the individual package or thro ugh a lead shortingdevice applied to the item.
3,1.5Unit package shall be designed to permit safe and easy removal and replacement of the item without bending ofleads, damage of the unit package or contents Design shall allow replacement without addition of any adhesives,tapes, devices,or use of equipment.
3.2 UNIT PACKAGING
3.2.1 The quantity per unit package shall be as follows, unlessotherwise specified by the procurement document;
Multiples of five (5)
3,2,2 Unit package length shall not exceed fifteen (15) inches.
3.2.3 Package items in a container fabricated of chemically neutralmaterial such as plastic,sturdy bleached chipboard,etc.
3.2.4Leads, terminals,etc., shall be protected from unacceptablebends by means of the design of the container. Container de-sign shall insure that each item is individually spaced to preventcontact with another item
3.3INTERMEDIATE PACKAGING
3.3.1 Intermediate packaging shall be in accordance with applicablerequirements of NAS 850.
3.4PACKING
3.4.1 Exterior packing shall be in accordance with applicable re-quirements of NAS 850
MARKING3.5
3.5.1 Unit, intermediate and exterior containers shall be marked inaccordance with applicable requirements of NAS 8504.0QUALITYASSURANCE
4.1Packages which do not conform to these requirements are subjectto rejection and return to supplier at his expense.
