1 .0 SCOPE: This standard provides a method of packaging waveguides/contour items; e.g., vacuum lines, etc., to maintain configuration and prevent contamination.

3.0 REQUIREMENTS
3.1 General
3.1 .1 Requirements of General Packaging Standard NAS850 are a part of this standard except as noted herein. 3.1 .2 Requirement of Silver Tarnish Inhibitor, Packaging Standard NAS3432 are part of this standard, when applicable, except as noted herein. In all cases the protection afforded the item shall be contained within the plastic transparent bag.
3.1 .3 Protect all mating flanges and line openings with proper size and style of plastic dust caps/plugs which can be removed and replaced.
3.2 Unit Packaging
3.2.1 The quantity per unit package shall be as follows, unless otherwise specified by the procurement document: One (1 ) each
3.2.2 Waveguides shall be placed in a transparent plastic bag or tubing. Accomplish unit closure by heat sealing, pressed closure or taping as applicable maintaining minimum air volume when bags are heat sealed. Allow sufficient material to accomplish at least one additional reseal.
3.2.3 Items shall be packaged in one of the types of packages described below:
3.2.4 Type 1 – Contoured Items
3.2.4.1 Place each bagged item on a board or holder designed to maintain specified item configuration. The length and width of the board or holder shall be greater than the overall dimensions of the item. The board or holder may be mortised, mitered, notched or recessed to allow for flanges.
3.2.4.2 Pad all points of blocking and bracing to prevent abrasion.
3.2.4.3 Place loaded board or holder in a container (e.g. fiberboard, set-up, folding, plastic, wood, etc.). The depth of the container shall be the same as the overall height of the board and holders or pegs.
