AIA/NAS 1433-2011 pdf download RADIOGRAPHIC STANDARDS FOR ALUMINUM ALLOY CASTINGS
The casting radiographic quality grades shown herein may be called out on the engineering drawings and will thereby define the maximum acceptable limit for each class of defect in any designated area. More than one quality grade may be called out on any one casting drawing if separate areas are designated for each grade.
The reference film and grading numbers are based on ASTM E1 55 reference radiographs for inspection of aluminum and magnesium castings.
Radiographic inspection shall be conducted in accordance with ASTM E1 742/E1 742M.
The casting grades listed herein are defined as:
Grade A – No discernable defect visible on radiograph
Grade B – A premium quality standard for critical applications
Grade C – High quality standard for general application in critical or high stress areas
Grade D – Normal quality standard for non-critical or low stress applications
Note: 1 /4 inch – Applicable casting thickness up to 1 /2 inch included.
3/4 inch – Applicable casting thickness – over 1 /2 inch to 2 inch included.
