ANSI IT4.304-2002 pdf download Processing Chemicals – Specifications for Hydrochloric Acid
5 Reagents and glassware All reagents, materials, and glassware shall conform with the requirements specified in ISO 1 0349-1 unless otherwise noted. The hazard warning symbols, used as a reminder in those steps detailing handling operations, are defined in ISO 1 0349-1 . These symbols are used to provide information to the user and are not meant to provide conformance with hazardous labeling requirements, as these vary from country to country.
6 Sampling
See ISO 1 0349-1 .
7 Test methods
7.1 Assay
7.1.1 Specification
The minimum mass fraction content of sodium ferrocyanide decahydrate shall be 98.0%; the maximum mass fraction shall be 1 02.0%.
7.1.2 Reagents
7.1.2.1 Sulfuric acid, H 2 SO 4 , ρ ≈ 1 .84 g/ml (DANGER: <
7.1.2.2 Potassium permanganate, KMnO 4 , standard volumetric solution of 0.02 mol/l (3.1 6 g/l).
7.1.3 Apparatus
7.1.3.1 Burette, of 50 ml capacity.
7.1.4 Procedure
Use a test portion of the sample of about 2 g weighed to the nearest 0.0001 g. Transfer the test portion to a 600 ml beaker, add 400 ml of water, and dissolve. Add 1 0 ml of sulfuric acid (7.1 .2.1 ) (<
7.1.5 Expression of results
The assay, expressed as a percentage by the mass of Na 4 Fe(CN) 6 ⋅ 1 0H 2 O, is given by where
V is the volume, in milliliters, of the potassium permanganate (7.1 .2.2) used to reach the titration endpoint;
m is the mass, in grams, of the test portion;
4.841 is a conversion factor for the mass of Na 4 Fe(CN) 6 ⋅ 1 0H 2 O equivalent to 1 mole of potassium permanganate (i.e., 48.41 ) x the conversion factor for milliliters to liters (i.e., 0.001 ) x the conversion factor to percentage (i.e., 1 00).
7.2 Mass fraction of volatile matter
7.2.1 Specification
The minimum mass fraction content of volatile matter shall be 35.2%; the maximum mass fraction shall be 39.2%.
7.2.2 Procedure
Determine the percentage of volatile matter in accordance with ISO 1 0349-8. Use a test portion of about 1 0.0 g,weighed to the nearest 0.001 g, and heat in an oven at 1 50 o C + 5 o C for 4 h.
7.3 Mass fraction of insoluble matter
7.3.1 Specification
The maximum mass fraction of insoluble matter shall be 0.03%.
