1 Scope
1.1 These requirements cover wire binding screw terminals of receptacles and switches rated 15 or 20 Aintended for use with solid conductor aluminum building wire, and that require direct connection of wiringconductor(s) to the binding head screw terminal(s) prior to insertion of the device in an outlet box.
1.2 These performance requirements for wire binding screw terminals are in addition to the requirementsfor the products covered by the Standard for Attachment Plugs and Receptacles, UL 498, and theStandard for General-Use Snap Switches,UL 20.
1.3 A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or differentfrom those covered by the requirements in this Standard, and that involves a risk of fire, electric shockor injury to persons, shall be evaluated using the appropriate additonal component and end-productrequirements as determined necessary to maintain the acceptable level of safety as originally anticipatedby the intent of this Standard. A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials,osystems conflict with specific requirements or provisions of this Standard cannot be judged to complwith this Standard. Where considered appropriate, revision of requirements shall be proposed andadopted in contormance with the methods emploved for development revision, and implementation othis Standard.

2 Components
2.1 Except as indicated in 2.2, a component of a product covered by this Standard shall comply withthe requirements for that component.

b) ls superseded by a requirement in this Standard.

2.4Specific components are recognized as being incomplete in construction features or restricted inperformance capabilities. Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such ascertain temperatures not exceeding specified limits and shall be restricted to use only under thosespecific conditions for which they have been recognized.

5General
5.1 Test Wire Size – Products rated 15 or 20 A shall be investigated for use with No. 12 (3.3 mm?) andNo, 10 AWG (5.3 mm’) aluminum conductors when they are intended for use on branch circuitsprotected by overcurrent protection rated either 15 or 20 A in accordance with the National ElectricaCode (NEC) ANSI/NFPA-70. Products rated 20 A shall be investigated for use with No. 10 AWG wireProducts rated 15 A that are not intended for use on a 20-A branch circuit shall be investigated with No12 AWG wire.
