5.1.2 Visual inspection
A visual inspection shall be carried out by the test house prior to the laboratory or the practical performance test, checking the integrity of the samples and to making sure there is nothing intrinsically dangerous about the suit. This may entail reference to the instructions for use and a certain amount of dismantling of the components of the protective clothing in accordance with the manufacturer’s information for maintenance. Information supplied by the manufacturer shall be checked
5.1.3 Conditioning for storage on samples and pretreatment for reusable suits
In tests dealing with material samples, all the samples shall be pre-conditloned during 24 h as stated by the manufacturer in the conditions of storage.
In tests dealing with whole garment samples, half samples shall be pre-conditioned during 24 h as stated by the manufacturer in the conditions of storage.
The preconditioned samples shall also he pre-treated as follows:
— lithe manufacturer’s instructions indicate that cleaning or disinfection Is not allowed, i.e. single use garments, no pre-treatment is required.
— lithe manufacturer’s instructions indicate that multiple use of garments is allowed, but that re-use of the garment is not permitted once the garment has been contaminated, i.e. limited-use garments. then testing shall be conducted on material which has been pre-treated by cleaning and disinfection only. The cleaning and disinfection shall be In line with the manufacturer’s instructions, on the basis of standardized procedures. If the number of cleaning and disinfection cycles is not specified, the tests shall be carried out after 5 cycles of pre-treatment. each consisting of one wash cycle, one dry cycle and one disinfection cycle carried out in the sequence as indicated by the manufacturer’s instructions. This shall be reflected in the information supplied by the manufacturer. lithe garment can be washed or alternatively dry-cleaned it shall only be washed, dried and disinfected. If only dry-cleaning is allowed, the garment shall only be dry-cleaned and disinfected in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
— If the manufacturer’s instructions indicate that cleaning, disinfection and decontamination is allowed, testing shall be carried out on material, which has been pre-treated by cleaning, disinfection and decontamination. If the number of cleaning, disinfection and decontamination cycles is not specified, the tests shall be carried out after 5 cycles of pre-treatment, each consisting of one cycle of pre-treatment by cleaning, disinfection and decontamination carried out in the sequence as indicated in the manufacturer’s instructions. This shall be reflected in the information supplied by the manufacturer. lithe manufacturer’s instructions speci& different decontamination procedures for different hazards, testing shall be carried out on material which has been pretreated by cleaning, disinfection and decontamination according to each of listed decontamination procedures, i.e. testing of as many pre-treated materials as there are specified decontamination procedures.
5.2 Practical performance test
5.2.1 General
The tests shall be carried out by two test persons on two different samples in ambient conditions. The test temperature and humidity shall be recorded. The background noise shall not be greater than 75 dB(A).
The test persons shall be selected who are familiar with using such or similar protective clothing. The persons will be drawn from those people certified as fit to do so by the medical officer. The necessity of a medical examination before or supervision during the tests shall be at the testing officer’s discretion.
Prior to the test there shall be an examination that the suit Is in working-condition and that it can be used without danger. If more than one size of a clothing is manufactured the subjects are asked to select the appropriate size. Ensure that the air supply is within the specified parameters. Two suits shall be tested, each being tested on one test person.
After fitting the suit, each test subject is asked “Does the suit fit?” lithe answer is “Yes” the subject shall proceed with the test. If the answer is “No”, report the fact and either replace the suit or the test subject. If the suit doesn’t fit any test subject within the given size range the sizing table shall be reported as incorrect and the suit test shall be reported as failure. The following are obvious reasons for concluding that a protective clothing product is unacceptable and not fit for use:
1) The person-defined suit size based on the subject’s size does not fit in a way that a safe use Is not possible.
2) It does not stay closed or it will not stay in place.BS/EN 1073-1-2016 pdf download.
