The goal of this consumer safety specification is to reduce the likelihood of injury to an infant due to the normal operation and reasonably anticipated misuse of a bedside sleeper.
This performance specification applies to products designed to offer a sleeping area for infants up to around 5 months of age (or until the child starts to crawl on hands and knees). These products are intended to be attached to the side of an adult bed to allow the baby to sleep near an adult.
Any bedside sleeper manufactured after the approval date of this consumer safety specification should not claim compliance with the specification through labeling or any other means unless it meets all the requirements outlined in this document.
This consumer safety performance specification does not intend to cover incidents and injuries that arise from modifications, unreasonable abuse, or misuse of the product by a child or a childcare provider.
