ASTM E866-23 pdf free download – Standard Specification For Corrosion-Inhibiting Adhesive Primer For Aluminum Alloys To Be Adhesively Bonded In Honeycomb Shelter Panels.
This specification outlines the requirements for corrosion-inhibiting adhesive primers intended for use on aluminum alloys that will be adhesively bonded in the production of honeycomb sandwich panels for tactical shelters. When applied to a properly cleaned aluminum alloy surface, the primer provides corrosion resistance and creates a suitable surface for structural bonding and coating with shelter paint finishes. The primer must be a pigmented liquid made from a modified epoxy resin system, formulated to allow for spray application that results in a continuous coating without the need for additional solvent. Uncured primers are to be evaluated for solids content, inhibitor content, storage stability, shelf life, color, sprayability, and curing properties. Cured films will be assessed for adhesion to metal, impact resistance, pencil hardness, water resistance, environmental resistance, corrosion resistance, humidity aging, heat resistance, and low-temperature shock. Additionally, bonded specimens must be tested to meet the requirements for normal, low, and high-temperature lap shears, humidity-exposure lap shear, salt-spray exposure lap shear, and normal and low-temperature floating roller peel strengths.
