1 Scope and Purpose 1.1 Scope This standard covers requirements and test methods for minimum performance pertaining to structure, renewability, water resistance, colorfastness, stain resistance, cleanability and other significant properties, in addition to general requirements of materials, workmanship and finish of solid surface materials. These products can be used for countertops, wall panels, window sills and other architectural applications. The materials and equipment listed to conduct testing procedures in this standard are provided solely for informational reference. Materials and equipment of similar design, composition and specification may also be used to conduct these test procedures.
1.2 Purpose The purpose of this standard is to establish minimum acceptable performance standards for solid surface materials. It is intended to serve as a guide for producers, distributors, architects, engineers, contractors, home builders, code authorities and users; to promote understanding regarding materials, manufacture, and installation; to form a basis for fair competition; and to provide a basis for identifying solid surface materials that conform to this standard. This standard and test procedures contained herein deal with the acceptability of solid surface materials. Other authorities may have additional requirements.
NOTE – There is the ANSI Z124 series of standards that applies to plastic plumbing fixtures. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use.
