ANSI EIA 364-16A-2002 pdf download Stripping Force Test (Solderless Wrapped Connectors) Test Procedure for Electrical Connectors
1.1 Scope
This standard establishes test methods to determine the force required to move a solderless wire wrapped connection along the post parallel to the axis of the post.
2 Test resources
2.1 Fixture
2.1.1 The test fixture shall be as shown in figure 1. The fork tines shall engage the test specimen wire in the same plane on both sides of the post and at a right angle to the post axis.
2.1.2 The inside edges of the fork tines shall be aligned so that there is no binding with the post.
2.1.3 The total clearance (sum of both sides) between the fork tines and the wrap post shall be no greater than 50% of the wire diameter.
2.1.4 If the post is rectangular in cross-section, the tines of the fork shall be parallel to the longest side of the post cross-section.
3 Test specimen
3.1 Description
3.1 The test specimen shall consist of a wrap post with a conventional or modified solderless connection cut from the connector in a manner to avoid damage to the free end of the post and wrapped connection.
3.2 Preparation
3.2 If the post selected contains more than one wrapped connection, the connection nearest to the free end of the post shall be tested first.
3.3 There shall be sufficient clearance between the wrapped connection to be tested and the next connection or the connector body to accommodate the tines of the test fork; see figure 1.
4 Test procedure
4.1 The test fork shall be moved parallel to the post axis, toward the free end of the post at a rate of 25.4 millimeters to 50.8 millimeters (1 inch to 2 inches) per minute.
4.2 The force exerted on the wrapped connection by the test fork as it moves shall be measured.
4.3 The maximum force which is required to move the whole wrapped connection along the post a distance equivalent to one wire diameter shall be measured as the stripping force.
5 Details to be specified
The following details shall be specified in the referencing document:
5.1 Number of specimens to be tested

6.1 Title of test
6.2 Specimen description including wire size and number of wraps
6.3 Test equipment used, and date of last and next calibration
6.4 Test and procedure
