contact wire: The conductor that is in “contactwith the pantograph collector head or trolley pole collectorshoe through which the vehicle draws current. Trolley wire is synonymous with contact wire, but is theterm used mainly by streetcar systems and rubber-tired ETB systems using trolley poles.
messenger wire: Used in many applications as a supporting wire, e.g., utility insulated cable distributionsystems frequently use an uninsulated, galvanized, stranded steel wire to support the cable. The messengerwire in catenary styles supports the contact wire both mechanically and electrically, since it is part of thecurrent-carrying conductor system.
pantograph: A spring-loaded, linked framework mounted on top of the rail vehicle or streetcar. whichmoves in a vertical plane to accommodate changes in the height of the contact wire and is the mechanismthrough which power for the vehicle is collected from the contact wire distribution system.
trolley pole: A hinged,spring-loaded pole, mounted on top of ETB cars and streetcars, with either acollector shoe or wheel collector at the upper, outer end, through which power for the vehicle is collectedfrom the contact wire distribution system.

A person who, by reason of instruction, training, and experience, is familiar with high voltage circuits andOCS equipment and has demonstrated familiarity with the work to be performed and the hazards involved.
