(A) MAXIMUM STUD:
(1) Threads: Per MIL-S-7742, except for the pitch diameter dimensions shown in the table and shall be subject to a unctional and pitch diameter check with tri-roll gages.
(2) Material: Steel.
(3) Heat Treatment: 36 HRC min.
(4) Finish: Cadmium plate per AMS-QQ-P-416, Type I, Class 3.
(B) MINIMUM MANDREL:
(1) Threads: Per MIL-S-7742, except as noted in table and shall be subject to a pitch diameter check with a tri-roll gage.
(2) Material: Steel.
(3) Heat Treatment: 58-64 HRC
(4) Surface Roughness: 20 microinches Ra max per ASME B46.1.
(5) The mandrel end shall have a 45° chamfer, extending below the root diameter. The resulting sharp feather edge of the incomplete thread shall be removed by stoning.
(C) USE:
Studs and Mandrels are used in various tests conducted on self-locking nuts.
