1GENERAL
ASME OME-1 is divided into sections that are designated by capital letters: the letter Q, which stands forqualification, followed by a second letter that generallyindicates the subject matter of the section. This Standardconsists of three major sections as follows:(a) Section QR: General Requirements(b) Section QP: Qualification of Pump Assemblies(c) Section QV: Qualification of Valve Assemblies
2 SECTIONS
Sections are divided into articles, subarticles, para-graphs, and, where necessary, subparagraphs and sub.subparagraphs.
3 ARTICLES
Articles are designated by the applicable letters indi-cated above for the sections, followed by Arabic numbers,such asQR-1000,QP-2000,and QV-6000.Wheneverpossible, articles dealing with the same topics are giventhe same number in each section in accordance with thefollowing general scheme:
The numbering of the articles and the material con-tained in the articles may not, however, be consecutive.Due to the fact that the complete outline may coverphases not applicable to a particular section or article,the rules have been prepared allowing some gaps in thenumbering. In Section QV of this Standard, subarticlesQV-1200,QV-1300,and QV-1400 describe exceptions tothis general numbering system, which may apply toparas. 4 through 8.
4 SUBARTICLESSubarticles are numbered in units of 100, such as QR-7100 or QV-7200.When more than nine subarticles arerequired, numbering is done by paragraph and units of1 starting with 10.
5 SUBSUBARTICLES
Subsubarticles are numbered in units of 10, such asQR-8310, and generally have no text. When a numbersuch as QR-8320 is followed by text, it is considereda paragraph. When more than nine subsubarticles arerequired, numbering is done by paragraph and units of1 starting with 10.
6 PARAGRAPHS
Paragraphs are numbered in units of 1, such as QR8321 or QV-8322.
SUBPARAGRAPHS
Subparagraphs, when they are major subdivisions ofa paragraph, are designated by adding a decimal followed by one or more digits to the paragraph numbersuch as QR-8321.1 or QV-8321.2When they are minorsubdivisions of a paragraph, subparagraphs may be designated by lowercase letters in parentheses, such as OR8321(a)and QV-8321(b).
8 SUBSUBPARAGRAPHS
Subsubparagraphs are designated by adding lower-case letters in parentheses to the major subparagraphnumbers,such as QR-83211(a) and OV-8321.1(b)Whenfurther subdivisions of minor subparagraphs are necessary, subsubsubparagraphs are designated by addingArabic numbers in parentheses to the subsubparagraphdesignation,such as QR-8321.1(a)(1) and QV8321.1(a)(2).
