1 SCOPE
1.1 General
This Standard for cast iron thrcaded drainage fittingscovers

1.2 Applicability
This Standard covers fittings intended for use ingravity drainage systems subject only to the gravityhead of waste liquids at temperatures from ambient toapproximately 212°F. The use of this Standard forpressurized waste handling systems is the responsibilityof the uscr and is subject to the requirements of anyapplicable code.

Requirements relating to the product manufacturersquality system programs are described in Annex A

Standards and specifications adopted by reference inthis Standard are shown in Annex I. which is part ofthis Standard.
2 SIZE
The size of the fittings scheduled in Tables I and2 is identified by the corresponding nominal pipe size.For reducing tees,Y-branches, or crosses, the largest run opening shall be given frst. The straight-linesketches (Fig. 1) illustrate how the reducing fittingsare read.
3 MARKING
Each fitting shall be marked with the manufacturer’sname or trademark in accordance with the requiremcntsof MSS Standard Practice No. SP-25.
4 MATERIALS
(a) The dimensions prescribed in this Standard (Ta-bles 3-13) are based on gray iron castings of highquality produced under regular control of chemicaland physical properties by a recognized process. Themanufacturer shall be prepared to certify that the producthas been so produced and that its chemical and physicalpropertics, as proved by test specimens, are equal tothe requirements specified in ASTM A 126,Specifica-tion for Gray Iron Castings for Valves, Flanges, andPipe Fittings.
(b) Drainage fittings are regularly made of cast iron.At the option of the manufacturer, drainage fittings may be furnished of malleable iron complying withthe minimum physical requirements of ASTMI A 197Specification for Cupola Malleable Iron.
5 DIMENSIONS AND TOLERANCES
5.1 Dimensions
U.S. customary units are used in this Standard. Somedimensions of steel pipe from ASME B36.10M arelisted in Annex B.Tolerances applicable to dinensionsof fittings are specified in paras. S.2 through 5.6.
5.2 Metal Thickness
At no point in the castings shall the metal hicknessbe less than 90% of the values listed in Tatle 3.
5.3 Thread Chamber
The length of thread and total length of threadchamber to shoulder shall not vary from the dinensionsshown in the tables by morc than plus or miinus theequivalent of the pitch of one thread.
5.4 Outside Diameter and Width of Band
The minus tolerances given in Table I are permittedon inspection to apply to the diameter of the hand andthe width of the band.
5.5 Inside Diameter of Fitting
The inside diamcter shall not vary from diinensionsshown by more than the following:
(a) for sizes 1’4 to 4,inclusive +0.03 in.
(b) for sizes 5 to 8,inclusive +0.06 in.
