Within the generai scope defined in Section i of theIntroduction, the scupe of B30.19 applies to all loadtranisporting, hoisting, and iowering cabie-supported systems opcrating on and supported from track cabie(s).This Standard does not apply to skylinc systems, asuscd in thc logging industry, or slackfine systems usedfor excavating.
Scction 19-0.2: Definitions
19-0.2.1 Types of Cableways
fixed cableway; a cabieway consisling of fixed (nun-luffing) towers (masts) which support the track cable(s)The lower and upper load blocks arc supported by acarriage powcred by inhaul and outhaul ropes to travelon the track cable(s). The function is to lift, lowcr, and transport loads a distance between the towers (sccFig.1).
luffing cableway: a cableway similar to a fixed cableway except the towers (masts) are not fixed. By theuse of powered luffing guys, the towers (masts) canbe ieaned in either direction transverse to the trackcable(s) span.providing a lateral movement of the loadblock (see Fig.2).
paraiiei cabieway: a cabieway simiar to a fixed cableway except the towers are supported by wheelswhich are powered (or lateral mmovement on paralleltracks (see Fig. 3).
radial cableway.a cableway which has a fixed (non-luffing) tower and a tower supported by wheels poweredfor travcl on a track which follows an arc at a radiusabout the fxcd tower (scc Fig. 4).
19-0.2.2 Generai
accessory: a secondary part or assembly of parts thatcontribules to the overaii function and usefuiness ofthe machine.
administrative or regulatory authority: governmentalagency, or the employer in the absence of governmenta!jurisdiction.
appointed:assigned specific responsibiiities by theemnpioyer or the empioyer’s representative.
authorized. approved by a duly constituted administrative or rcgulatory authority.
brake: a device, other than a motor, used for retardingor stopping motion by means of friction or power.
button linc: a rope suspended betwecn the top ofthe cableway towers to position the slack carricrs atpredetermined locations as the trolley moves longitudinally along the track cable. The button line is normallyabove and clear of the track cables. The buttons attachedto the button line are of varying sizes to permit someof the slack carriers to pass by while stopping thecarrier designated for that location.
cab: a housing provided for the operator in whichthe cableway controls are contained.
cublewuy: a device used for hoisting, lowering, andtransporting loads within a prescribed path, longitudi-nally and laterally. The load block (upper) travcis ona ropc catcnary systcm having span cnds that arcsupported on fixed or movable towers (masts) or otherelevated supports.
carriage (trolley): a framework that travels by itssheaves (wheels) on the track cable(s) and includes theupper load block.
designated: a person selected or assigned by the employer or the employer’s representative as being competent to perform specific duties.
designer (original): the qualified person or personsdesignated to design the components of a cablewayfor a given set of circumstances relating to but notiimited to capacity. span. height. and terrain (also. seemanufacturer).
