ASME B18.24.1:1996 pdf download PART IDENTIFYING NUMBER (PIN) CODE SYSTEM STANDARD FOR B18 EXTERNALLY THREADED PRODUCTS
1 INTRODUCTORY NOTES
1.1 Scope
1.1.1 This Standard is intended to provide all users(manufacturers, distributors, design and configuration.parts control, inventory control, test and maintenancefunctions) with the capability to idcntify cxtcrnallythreaded fastener products by a pre-selected order ofcoding as specified herein.
1.1.2 The B18 PIN coverage is a self containedcode with distinct identification linkage to individualASME B18 externally threaded fastener product stan-dards, The PIN code concept provides for direct trace-ability back to the applicable B 18 product standard. Incase of conflict with this document and the B18 productstandard, the B18 product standard takes precedence.
2 GENERAL GUIDANCE
2.1
Each individual ASME B18 externally threaded fas-tener product standard provides for optional B18 PINcoverage under”Designation” or“Ordering”data.
2.2
Alpha “T” and “O” are not used in PIN feld codeconfiguration.
3 PIN ORDER OF CODING BY FIELDS
FIELD 1 FASTENER FAMILY FOREXTERNALLY THREADED PRODUCT
Four numeric characters or with fourth character as”N” representing last 3 or 4 number characters of B18Standard designation after”B 18” as applicable. The“N” represents a no entry condition.
NOTES:
(1) If after the B18 Standard number designation there is a nummberof digits less than 3: one or two zeros (0) are added to make upthe 4 character designation. For cxample: B18.3 5 300N or B18.3.1M5 310N or B18.2.3.10M 5 2310.(2) Where two samne B18 standard designationa are identifiod by thosame B18 Standard, the alpha character per Field I is used as aprefix for unique fastener family product identification.
FIELD 3 HEAD AND DRIVE
Three alphanumeric characters. See Matrix A, Headand Drive.
FIELD 4 THREAD SERIES
FIELD 5 DIAMETER AND LENGTH
Four alphanumeric characters – total of 4 charactersin varied order. See matrices BI for inch externallythrcaded product,B2 for metric externally threadedproduct, and B3 for miniature screws.
FIELD 6 MATERIAL AND TREATMENT
Five alphanumeric characters. See Matrix C, Materialand Treatmnent. Covers both direct American Societyfor Testing and Materials (ASTM) source referenceand Aluminum Association (AA), Iron and Steel Society(ISS). Society of Automotive Engineers,Inc.(SAE)Cooper Development Association (CDA), and IndustrialFasteners Institute (IFI) source reference accordingly.
FIELD 7 PLATING,COATING,ANDPASSIVATION
Two alpha or numeric characters. See Matrix DPlating,Coating, and Passivation.
